Hey all, successful hatching going on here for the most part, but this morning I did wake to one chick that I think hatched with unwelcome help from it's clutch mates. I've now moved all other chicks to the brooder and left the chick with the unabsorbed yolk in the incubator in a cup with wet paper towels under it after reading threads from folks here. I've been changing paper towels as they dry out/get messy to keep them clean and moist.

The chick looks GREAT this afternoon compared to this morning. Lots of peeping and (limited by the cup) wiggling around. But honestly, it doesn't look like the yolk has done much.

Do I just leave it in the incubator and keep this up until it hopefully is all absorbed, or at what point does it need food and should be allowed to move about more? I'd say the sac is about the size of a small fingernail, not massive but definitely noticeable. Can grab a pic during next check if that helps, just trying not to disturb the incubator too much since I still have some eggs in there. Right now, it is in with 4 other eggs we are waiting another day or 2 on to see if we have any late hatchers.

Hi,

I'd leave it in there until it recovers and is a fuzzy chick running around on its own. My guess is another day entirely.

The don't need food/water for up to 72 hours from hatching.
