Just hatched 12 eggs. Broody hen in my filing cabinet nest box. She didn't want to move out. 12 out of 15. I slid the drawer out and put her in new home. 6 days old now. Frizzle, jap bantam and aracana. Broody is Barnevelder x. Seems to be good mother
When should I let them roam about garden

Hi Angela and welcome to BYC. Congrats on your new hatch! I let the mothers make those decisions - just leave the door open and she will take them out, if she feels it the right time to do so. My hens have usually taken their broods out of the coop at 2-3 days old.

Best wishes

so glad you have joined us. Congratulations on your new additions.

When and how you let them "roam" would depend on your situation - other members of the flock, predators, etc.

I would suggest you consider posting under "raising baby chicks" with more details to get more specific opinions.

Good luck with the babies.

I would have mama and babies free to go to some run but, not with the resident birds yet. Unless you know mom is a fierce protector, I'd let the babies get some weeks under their belts before mingling with the others.
