I type slow...everyone beat me to answer ya. LOL!!!!

Yoo don't have to have a hatcher, but it can be convenient in the future to help the whole operation run a little smoother.

You can candle at day 7 or later to check for vitality.

At day 18 I candle one last time, turn off my auto egg turner, bump up the humidity and then wait for the big show.

Oh yea, like Farmer Kitty said...keep bator on lock down after day 18, so you can keep temps and humidity steady for the hatch.

I'm sorry that I can't help you about cleaning the Hova Bator, b/c I don't have a styrofoam kind of bator.

A lot of BYC members have the Hova Bator, so hopefully they can chime in to help you there.

What kind of eggs are you hatching?

Good luck!!!!

Welcome to the forum, Kim if your eggs are due all the same date then a hatcher (another bator) is not needed. However when you get this addiction

then most get another bator to cover these staggered hatches. Bators are bators whether they are on day 1 or day 21.

Yep, you might as well go buy another incubator, b/c you'll be hooked.

That way you'll be prepared if all your shipped hatching eggs from different breeders didn't arrive on the same day to set at the same time.
