Hatchery Delawares--What If?

Thanks krullmm, I think he's beautiful and with his calm, cool disposition, I think he's my most beautiful cock. He's just a year old. Super Fertile! I'm picking him up two more pullets just starting to lay next weekend.

I have five Delaware pullets that I ordered from Ideal and they are big, non-aggressive and beautiful. I also have a Roo and another hen that I hatched out last year from eggs purchased from a breeder on ebay. They are wonderfull birds as well. I ordered another group of 25 chicks from Ideal that are due in mid-March . I'll let you know if they arrive alive and healthy.

Has anyone had experience with Delawares from Welp? We too are wanting Dels and are too impatient to wait until August to get ones from SandHill. Once we get a broody hen (or two...or three) then we'd like to get a few hatching eggs from a reputable breeder. However, I need a chick fix in the meantime.

You know, My single Buff Orp was the same way, but SUDDENLY (after I sold most of the other hens) she loves to be held and petted by me. I was almost ready to sell her, but then she started acting sweet to me and laying eggs almost daily.

She is one MEAN lady to my new polish chickens! But she's letting the polish rooster father her children. She still shows him who's boss though. Whoever said Buff Orps are the docile ones that get bullied by other birds never met my 'Butterball'.

It is true, like you've all said, that the individual birds differ.

Reading all these posts makes me reconsider getting a Delaware if I'm playing russian roulette as to niceness or meanness.
