I want a few more chicks/chickens but won't be ordering the 25 min. that is required by McMurray's. I only want 5 more (now). Are there hatcheries in CA that will let me order that few or do I need to visit my feed store?

only requires that the minimum order add up to 20.00$

but they'll add a few packing peanuts

one time ALL the packing peanuts in our bantam order were NN's

You might want to do some searching on BYC - there are lots of CA members, and you might find someone local that has a few they are willing to sell!

Most hatcheries have to have those minimum orders to provide enough body heat for shipping. If you only want 5, you should go with the feed store or another breeder near you.

If you want specific breeds go with a hatchery or breeder. If you aren't particular on breeds, I'd go with the feed store (they may have what you want anyway). One thing with feed stores ,at least where I'm at, they get chicks for a few weeks in the spring and then they're done for the season.
