Sigh, this was brought home for a broody hen June 18th as a two day old chick. Supposed to be a pullet. This chick has had me wondering for a couple weeks now and I'm pretty sure I heard an attempt at a crow today but didn't look like it came from this one. Been red for a while but little to no comb and no feathers screaming roo at me. I keep checking for hackle feathers but even though they look pointed, they're not, just colored that way. Very bad lacing on this bird but pretty none the less.

The attempted "crow" you heard could just be the "egg-song".

Yay! I really wanted a SLW as I just love my GLW, kinda disappointed that her lacing is so bad but she's still pretty. Might have been an egg song but it was different from all my other girls songs. My older flock is right around a year and they make all kinds of noise when they're "singing". This one was new and maybe it came from the little EE girl behind her, she's been investigating the nesting boxes but I haven't found any pullet eggs yet. They're pretty close to egg laying I think, but will they wait till next spring since it's so late in the year?

She looks like one of my hatchery SLWs. We are still waiting for her first egg but she is definitely a she! Here is a pic of my girl at about the same age as yours.
