Hatchery SLW? (Silver Laced Wyandottes)

I have a couple of  four week old feed store SLW's  and they're not looking so great.  How do you find out where you can get a well bred SLW?  I live in New Orleans, LA.  The feed store's are the only source that I have heard of for chicks, other than online.

There is a feed store in chalmette called bjs or j&b b&js on judge perez. I purchased a slw that is beautiful. Shes is silver red and grey. The owner gets them in from time to time. I wish I could post a picture.

Wyandotte or not? Bought Chernobyl as an EE...but she looks way different from her hatchmates.

How do Wyandottes do in a predator filled environment? We have foxes, skunks, rats, ratcoons, cats, etc in our small mountain town. I'm worried about getting a flock of birds that are easy prey.

If you intend to free range I would think it could pose a problem. Now that my 4. are adult hens, they can only get 2 or 3 feet off the ground for a short distance. Don't know if any chicken is really good at avoiding predators. Wyandottes are very nice birds though, I'm pleased so far.

If you are worried about predators, I would build a coop like Fort Knox, and a strong well-built run that has a wire bottom or bury the fence down a foot or two.

My SLW is from MPC.
