Love, love, love my hatchery chickens. I don't breed them, just enjoy them, and have no interest in showing them. We showed dogs (St. Bernards) years ago, did very well, but I have no interest in getting into that kind of thing again.

Mine are all Bantys, have 16 - two roos - and just ordered 5 Sultans, which my husband calls "totally useless chickens" - don't care, I think they are cool! I have Silkies, Brahmas, Cochin Frizzles, Mille Fleur D'Uccles, White Crested Black Polish, Gold and Silver Sebrights, and one EE. Love 'em all and can't wait to get my Sultans (ordered them from Purely Poultry - we usually order from My Pet Chicken, but they are not currently carrying Sultans).

I can definitely appreciate people that want to show chickens and improve the breeds, experiment, etc., but I just want to relax and enjoy my chickens. They are my 'therapy'. Think I'll go out and hug a chicken right now...and chase my broodies out to get a bite to eat...SILKIES! ha

I love my hatchery stock chickens and ducks!!! If it wasn't for the hatchery I wouldn't have such variety in my chicken coop! I mean just look at my signature! I just wanted a variety for eggs and be able to tell them all apart, I don't care if they reproduce, but it would be cool, though I would have mixes since my roosters are a Cochin and an EE

But they are all beautiful and my girls love them!

Only issue is identifying the assortments. As chicks or young adults figuring out what they are is frustrating sometimes. :-(

I love all chickens....regardless of where they come from. My chickens have so much personality and they bring me so much joy. I have mostly hatchery/feed store chicks. I recently acquired some breeders birds when I attended a poultry swap. Honestly, they are all the same in my eyes. Here is my newest Feed store baby...a gold sex link named June Bug:

Most say they don't - these were replacement birds from a shipment that was DOA. At that point live was good. :-/ I've been asking online since arrival...but figuring out breeds doesn't work if no one knows what they are. They're nice birds but "nice birds but I don't know for sure what they are" doesn't work for identification to sell offspring. :-( I've tried descriptions, photos, video, different sites, 'experts' - no one knows to confirm or deny - learning is only as good as finding an answer...if there's no answer there's no learning. Very discouraging.

I'm sorry you've had a bad experiences! It's good that they replaced them though.

With chicks identification can be hard for most people, maybe you can try an add pictures as they get older and start to feather out. Good luck!
