We bought the Ideal pullet special and were pleased. We got 5 gold sex links, 5 Rhode Island Reds, 5 Ideal 236s, 5 Silver laced Wyandottes and 5 brown Leghorns.

I saw that on their order form...what are they?

eta: I was thinking of ordering the silkie assortment, and would love a feather leg assortment if I got a bunch of cochins and frizzles like a previous poster.

I ordered the cackle hatchery surprise last year(and this year!) I was really pleased. I got roughly 55 birds for $45 or so. They sent some bantams, cochins, polish, 2 ducks, a gosling, 2 turkeys, red sex links, RIRs, and australorps. I got a decent mix of boys and girls. That's why I ordered it again. It was so fun to get - like christmas in april!!!

Last fall we ordered the Rainbow Layer assortment from My Pet Chicken when they ran a special on it. By the zip code we determined that it came from Meyer. We got:

3 white cochins
1 blue cochin
3 black sumatras
2 white crested black polish
1 white crested blue polish
1 white sultan
1 brown leghorn
2 silver lakenvelders
6 white leghorns
3 silver spangled hamburgs
2 golden campines


It was a very interesting assortment. We were hoping for heavy breeds but got mostly light breeds. We sold most of them at about 3 months of age. We kept the brown leghorn and the cochins.

I also ordered Cackle's Hatchery Surprise last year. I ended up with 2 white turkeys (delicious!), 2 rouen drakes, and 28 chicks. The chicks were all different kinds and only 2 roos. If I could, I would order it again this year. I am on chick buying lockdown though.
