So I just came back in from the barn, where I was sitting with my second Faverolle who will likely die in the next 24 hours from some unknown cause. My other one had to be put down a month ago due to complications from a kidney tumor. They are/were only 2. In my previous flock, the longest-lived chicken was only 3.5; 3 died from EYP, one from a seizure disorder, one from a kidney tumor, and one from a predator. Those ladies were sex-links from TSC, and the current girls are from My Pet Chicken. Granted I am working with a small sample size of 11 chickens in total, but are these life spans normal? Does breeder stock tend to live longer than hatchery stock?
