We hope to have someting hatch on the 7th. We have a borrowed Hovabator 1602N and 7 Maran eggs we bought off Ebay. It's our first hatch and it has been a disaster. We followed the directions we were given Temperature of 100 and Humidity between 50-50%.
The first week was fine - temperature between 99 and 100 with humidity between 50 and 55%. Then on 7/23 the weather got really humid and so did the incubator.
We couldn't get it down no matter what we did. It spiked to the 60's for most of the day. That night there was a thunderstorm, the weather cooled and got less humid and so did the incubator. Humidity was back to the low 50's. Then 7/25 another thunderstorm and we loss power for about 4 hours. The temp dropped to about 89 but once power came back both temp and humidity have been stabilized. Now temp stays at 99/100 and humidity is 48/49%.
Since our problems began, we read SOOOOOO many posts on BYC about the different opinions on humidity.
We are hoping for the best and still can't wait for the 7th no matter what the outcome may be. This experience has been both draining and exciting.
One thing we know is that we will be doing this again.
