hehe warning warning warning.............

HATCHING EGGS IS ADDICTIVE!!!

you have it exactly right, lockdown is the day that you stop turning eggs up the humidity and sit back and pull your hair out

wondering if you have done everything right? or did u mess everything up...???

then that first pip ( when the chick breaks the shell to get air) to the zipping ( where the chick breaks the shell around the egg)
and then flops out .........who is confused and looks at you like " you are sure a weird looking mommy"

chicks need to stay in IMO for atleast 12-16 hours or until everyone hatches... and they are completely dry..
depending on what type of incubator...some loose heat and humidity very quickly.......

this is my first chicken batch, but have done several batches of quail eggs.....

Hatch little babies hatch....I'm going to take mine out this afternoon. Looks Like I may have done an error on the humidity. I will see when I take the babies out! I stand in awe for all of you who incubate regularly in styrofoams. It's so much harder than cabinets, even though our cabinet is certainly not computerized! I'm staying tuned to all these hatches!

i got 6 little chicks out of 8 eggs so far....

im wondering now about the other two eggs, no movement, no pips....

gonna candle them in a few and see if i can tell anything...
let them stay another day or so to see if they are just late bloomers..

the pics above are of the ones hatching

Great pictures katheria! They may be late bloomers.

Last night I moved 11 beautiful bloomers into the brooder. I didn't have the heart to see why my others didn't make it. My intuition is that I over humidied them..Drowned them with too much humidity. I added the wet towel. It took way too long for my hatches ones to dry off. I'm sad that I lost them but again have gained so much knowledge and so much admiration for all who hatch in stryofoam. I must get my cabinet fixed! The fluctuation in temperature and humidities has been such a challenge for me. Later today I'll examine the little ones that didn't hatch through and see if I was right. Based on egg weight I'm sure I was. I just really don't have the heart to see but I know I must.

I will post pictures of the pretties later today. Have a blessed day. I'll continue to look here and see how everyone else is doing!
