Hatching dirty eggs

So , I have the incubator up and ready to go , picked up the eggs this afternoon , and was horrified at how dirty they are . I know that you shouldn't clean them , but they are NASTY , what should I do ?? Wipe them with a damp cloth? Rub them with a scrubbie ? HELP , I really want these eggs to hatch !!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

You can rub the stuff off with a cloth, but not a wet one. I hate it when that happens.

I think you should rub off most of it with a dry cloth. No liquid.

Yeah I agree to use something dry to wipe them off as best you can.

really I would ask for a clean batch but chances are they will just wash them under the sink so next best suggestion is steel wool like a course grade. dont burnish them though there is a reason for the pores after all.

I had to clean off some barred rocks and pekin duck eggs tonight. It's not hard to do.

i also have a few dirty ones that i was not sure what to do with. they should hatch within the week, if they developed. we have not had good luck thus far.

DAB with cloth... No wipe... Dab... You do not want to remove the "bloom".... Lots of hens hatch dirty eggs.. I have hatched pig filthy ones.. (I live in oregon.. that should explain everything) My hatch rate isn't as good but I still get a lot of birds.. Never had problems... I have had problems if I wipe them too good...(bateria rings)

The only eggs I set are the filthy eggs. I cannot sell dirty eggs so those are the ones I keep for hatching or eating ourselves. I have almost perfect hatches and I never clean my eggs before setting them. The most I will do is scrape off the heaviest with a plastic putty knife if it will flake off easily and wipe with a dry cloth.

Act like you are dry dusting them gently! I have hatched mud caked duck eggs... washing is bad, so I just lived with it!
