Hatching disaster Oh, no!

That's wonderful news! I saw your thread about the bad news and before I got to your update I actually had the thought "just give it a little more time, it may just need a little extra time!" I've heard that a drop of polyvisol without iron can help a weak chick get back on it's feet.

^^ sometimes they just need a chance. Now that that baby is ok I have another to fuss over haha. The egg I didn't expect to hatch hatched a tiny tiny chick. They're all bantam to medium sized chicks but this ones tiny. It's healthy though so alls well. I'm just worried mom chicken and her ten chicks might trample it. It's like half their size so I'm giving it some special attention. The other chick is happily with the hen now so alls looking great.

So it goes with chickens, there always seems to be one to rescue from imminent doom. Some folks would just cull, which is fine, but when you consider them your pets it's not always so cut and dry.

Yeah they're my baby's adopted babies and I have time to make sure they all survive. I consider my bird like I do our dog~ a member of the family so her chicks are special to me too. Turns out the little tiny one is an Old English Game Bantam so when it's small it's SMALL but I have had it to myself and kept it last night in the incubator and it's a lot stronger now. I think I'll just hand raise it, I'd like to keep it as a pet anyways so tamer the better. I have a few weeks before my college starts back up which is more than enough time for it to grow a lot bigger (well for an OEGB) and stronger before I have to leave it alone. I nearly tossed its egg before i incubated so I should just be grateful the SUPER dirty egg hatched a chick at all, not to mention a healthy one. …It was the only whitish egg and i couldn't resist incubating it… even though any smart person would have tossed it because it looked like it could be…. infectious or something. Went against my best judgement. Not doing it again but it turned out ok this time.

I'm glad I didn't give up on the other chick too because now it's really doing great, as good as the other chicks and you can't even tell it barely survived its first 24 hours.
