Hatching Duck eggs....I messed up...UPDATE.....#1

Thanks for enjoying my Ducks and my rambling about them....;) .....It was neat seeing Petunia stealing my Ducklings from me...DW was not as impressed by them, although he never was really aggressive either...:)

I bet it was hard not wanting those Ducklings...;) ....your little Poopers are going to be with you very soon...;) ....Yippee!!....:)

You're welcome! Ha Petunia stole them? Silly ducky

Ten days left! Lol
We bought all their stuff this weekend (Brooder, food, grit, etc). So excited!

I have a question for you. I remember you saying once that some of your ducks imprinted on you, but still went outside. That makes sense to me, because ducklings in the wild imprint on their mom and eventually leave her, but everything I have read says that you shouldn't let your ducklings imprint on you. Why? How do you make it so that they imprint but don't break down when you leave them?

It's easy...Spend time with them as much as you can....Do not run to them every time they cry..;)
Bouncer still loves me and Lucy...:)....I pick him up still for our kisses and snuggles....He is happy living with the Ducklings..Even Sam and Lydia enjoy me cuddling them too!.....Quack and peep to them and have them follow you around right from day one....You will be an excellent Duck Momma!....:)

Aww you have ducklings?! I had no idea! Ya shoulda told us, congrats!

Ha I can just imagine a bunch of little ducklings squeezing peas all over the floor

How old are they, and what breed(s)?
And yeah we need pictures!

Yep, I hatched 8 Silver Welsh Harlequins two weeks ago (or thereabouts), 4 at home and 4 at the school (2nd graders). I have 2 Brinsea 'bators, which I just love. Out of 11 eggs, 8 did really good. 3 were not fertile. I am determined to hatch some goose eggs next spring when my little goslings (still at Blue House Farm in their 'bator) will be laying eggs. I'm hoping to pick up some goslings in about 10 days, which is perfect as I will have electric in the duck house to keep their warming light on. So out go the duckies and in come the goosies. Ain't it fun?

Thanks for the advice! Lol soo glad we changed the date; I am getting them three days before spring break

Now I can spend a lot of time with them! I really want them to be friendly and like people - but they can't be inside. This is the best of both worlds, I think

I don't have the patience for hatching.. Also too many variables - such as gender and how many ducks you get. We just want a small backyard flock as pets, so hatching isn't the best option for us. Sometimes I wish we could though! Hatchlets are adorable!

Ooh post pictures of goslings too! Ha I will have my ducks at around the time when you get your goslings..

Yes, your Ducklings and you will be in love in about 2 minutes!...:)...I am so happy for you .:):)

He was from when I rescued Petunia.....I took what had survived the fox attack .....I thought he was a Hen because he was all brown at first....His voice was gone from throat injuries ....Nope a Drake..My friend has him...

I'm sorry about the fox attack! Either a fox or a raccoon is what took my first ducks.
It's good that you gave him to a friend, you know he is well taken after!
