Here's what I wanted to say...
I may be interested in some Golden Cascade Duck eggs, but I don't know anything about them. I want to do what my neighbor does. She has rouens, and she made them a house & pool in her garden, and then put a short, chicken-wire fence around all the veggies. The ducks then leave the garden plants alone, but keep the rest weeded, and she has almost no bug problems. Last year, my garden was nearly destroyed by grasshoppers and japanese beetles and hers was just beautiful. But I know the rouens are very comfortable without a large pond and do not fly. Would I have a problem keeping the Golden Cascades this way? Would they be flying out of the garden fencing? I love their coloring, but just don't know if they are a breed I should be looking at for this purpose. Thank you!

Sorry about the inbox. I have had a lot of request for eggs and I am trying to get to everyone. I cleared a couple of pms so I have a little room.

The Golden Cascades are meduim size duck and they cannot fly. Mine would never get over a 3 foot fence unless they have a ladder. They are great little egg layers. I like that I can always tell the females from the males by their bill color. Females have a milk chocolate colored bill thus the cute little girl in the picture and the male have orange/greenish bill. They are great with keeping the bugs in check. Our pond is well out of the way for the safety of the birds so they get a pool or stock tank in the summer and small cut off barrels of water in the winter. I will say they are messy and it's a chore to keep their water clean. I hope that answered your questions.

Just a quick note to let you know my eggs arrived safely and they are absolutely gorgeous. Nice and big and the Barnevelder eggs were darker than I thought they would be....

I slipped some under 2 different broodies and the rest go in the bator.

Thank you so much !!!!!!!!!!!

I candled my Golden Cascade eggs from you last night - day 5. 8 of the 12 are definitely developing! Yippee! I'm not giving up on the other 4 just yet though - I'll give them a few more days. Not that I need that many ducks anyway... BUT... you know how that goes.

My neighbor asked me to set 12 of her rouen eggs as well. Her friend wanted some of her rouen ducklings, and her ducks just aren't ready to go broody for her. 11 out of 12 of her eggs are developing too. So lots of duckies in the bator! Yippee! I've been working on my garden fencing in preparation for the little quackers! Can't wait!
