Hatching Eggs for the first time and very anxious!

He did set me up with some good advice and all the equipment to borrow which was helpful to not have to buy it!I My husband and I wanted chickens for our place and this just seemed like a great way to do it!!! I hope there are hatchers too! If I do this again next year I will probably buy all the equipment myself. I hear it is addicting!

Are you sure it's day 21? You don't count the first day you set as day 1, it's 24 hours after setting. If you set on a Friday, day 21 will be on a Friday

I set them in the mid afternoon of wed march 25 .. so that means that hourly speaking this would still be day 21 until this afternoon?? is that correct? and we start day 22 today??

Yes. I still wouldn't worry yet. If temps were a little low, the hatch could be delayed a little

So.... day 23 my classroom smells pretty rotten this morning...

.... I'm going to give them until tomorrow but not smelling good and still no movement ... I chatted with my students about it this morning... Pretty sure I can get my hands on some australorp day old chicks this weekend... anyone ever raised these?? We have are ordered ready to lay red star hens to come in june 2... I read a lot of good stuff about the australorps winter hardy.. which we need and easy to handle and good egg producer...any insights? I don't mind having a mixed flock and am looking for something so my students can still have the chick experience.. Thanks

I hate to hear that. I was so hoping that you would at least get a few. I've never had Australorps, but they are supposed to be a very dependable breed

Ya.. not gonna lie.. I shed a few tears last night when I think I truly knew.... Just heart broken for my kids they were so excited... I called them feather parents and we had set our due date and everything.. For 11 year old this was a huge deal... So we talked today about the prospect of adopting and they seemed pretty psyched about it too... they just want the experience of the chicks too... I was truly hoping for a few...
