Hatching eggs - help

I did the water test on my chicks at day 23 and they were still alive and survived till day 24 however they didn't make it out as they were at the wrong end of the shell so could never pip. I've heard of people having hatches on day 25 so please wait. To do the water test. Get a deep bowl so the egg can float without touching the bottom fill it with warm water warm enough so you can barely feel it. Gently place the egg in the water. Wait for the egg to settle in the water then watch and the egg should eventually bob on its own. Don't worry if it doesn't bob straight away just keep watching for a couple of mins. good luck hope this helps! Is this your first hatch ?

I read somewhere on BYC that some chicks can take up to 25 days to hatch, I would also wait.

Thanks for all the replies. I live in North Carolina and it should be high 92 tomorrow. And yes this is my first hatch.....I got some blue ameraucana eggs for my birthday. We have 5 white leghorns that are 14 week old but we bought those from local fees store as chicks.

I am outside of Wilmington, and we are experiencing high humidity . Not sure how to calculate that in hatching. I have eggs in the incubator that are on day 19. Does it matter? This weather stinks...

I know that humidity does matter during incubation. Between days 1-17 humidity should be 30-40% and on day 18 it needs to go up to 70%. This helps them develop right and keeps the air sac at the right side and the higher humidity at the end helps so they can come out of the shell easier....or at least this is what I have read.

I actually work 2nd shift and just got home. Our youngest one that as acting very weak did not make it :-(

It's probably better that way, survival of the fittest in the wild so he wouldn't of made it anyway
