Hatching eggs without an incubator?

When I was a kid my mother used to bring the eggs into the house once they pipped, and keep them on the open oven door of a wood stove to finish hatching. Worked for her, and I remember watching the goslings hatch just fine without the extra humidity. That brings back some good memories....

the waiting for a pip might not be a bad idea.. and have water there staying warm in case you need to wet down the membrane..

but i've read that geese are hard to incubate anway, so i would go wit hthe letting mom keep at them as long as possible...

good luck

It should still imprint on you as long as you handle it within the first 24 hours after birth, even if it also imprints on mom. I imprint goats, parrots, and horses without taking them away from mom, I just handle them daily from the moment they are born. I assume geese would be similar.

Do they need the same conditions when they hatch as when there being incubated?

If they Imprint on there mother but you still handle them from shortly after they are hatched they will still bond very close to you but will always love there "real" parents the best.

mine is a 8''x9'' box with 15 w light- note the heat shield on lamp and in a metal bowl. holds heat at 100' just fine I am on day 18. Hatched some in a bigger box last month. I wanted something smaller. cost 16.00 for light, bulb, thermometer.
