How long does it take for eggs to hatch? My one female started making a nest and sitting on eggs May 16th. Since them more eggs have been laid and I haven't taken them out . Wednesday June 19th she pushed an egg out of the nest and I picked it up. The one side of it had been smashed and I noticed some fluid and blood in it. I gave it to my dog and she finished cracking it and there was a duckling in it. It had the whole form and everything and it was black just like my cauyoga boys.

Unless they're mixed with Muscovy, duck eggs take 28 days (4 weeks) to hatch. Is there any way you could shoo your duck away from the eggs for a few minutes and candle them to see if they're developing and how far along they are? The original eggs that were in the nest when she started sitting should have hatched by now, but the ones that were added into the nest along the way may be perfectly fine.

Is the Khaki Campbell in your avatar the broody duck that's sitting on the nest? My Khaki Campbell went broody a few years ago, and when the ducklings started hatching, she attacked the first 2 ducklings and then started smashing the rest of the eggs and kicking them out of the nest. She sat on her nest for a full month like a champ, but I don't think she had the instinct to know what to do when they started peeping and moving underneath her!

They're not known for being good mothers. That might not be the case with your girl, but it's just a thought. I would definitely try candling them just to see what's going on.

Thank you for the reply...BUT...we have ONE that has hatched so far!

We had a few bad storms yesterday evening so when I went out this morning to feed and water, I saw that she had moved the nest a little to be under the chair more and one egg was rolled out and when I went in with the rake a noticed some shell pieces and when she moved a little I saw the back of a little fuzzy baby!

It's pretty chilly right now so I'm sure she's keeping however many warm and she is definitely not going to get off of the nest right now!
I put my little waterer and some non-medicated chick feed in there.
I AM SO RELIEVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will watch her with the eggs and babies though. She is sitting on both her eggs and the blue Swedish eggs.
