Hey there, i know im just jumpin in kinda late here, but did you open your incubator to take those pics you posted? If so that is most likely why your chick was shrink wrapped.
She is a bit of a night owel which is annoying when her brooder is next to my bed and she wonders away from the lamp and gets cold and starts screaming. Does she look normal? She is a bearded silkie.
Very cute!, but you should leave them in the incubator till they are fully dried, they get chilled very easily. They are fine for a day or two without food or water, but you do need to have food and water available, in the brooder.

I had something similar happen 3 days ago. It was my last egg to hatch and the chick was about halfway through breaking out of the egg and then the other chicks kicked the egg and rolled it over. I was out when this happened and when I got home I noticed it. The hole the chick made was face down and blocked so I think it died from lack of air. The egg looked almost exactly like yours. (Dry looking) Poor little chick, it was really healthy looking.

oh man, right when you go out it has to happen huh. Maybe the idea for putting them in an egg carton type thing is a good idea for us.
And when should I clean that thing, it smells so bad but I dont want to disturb the other eggs just yet?
