Hatching For Dummies? Help Needed!!!!

i dont know how old the egs are. I will find out from the lady. From what my mom said it sounds like the turkey eggs were laid today. But i am unsure on the chicken eggs.

I agree. I would much rather have a smaller hatching rate than lose all of them

oops sorry one more question. i have 2 thermometers. One came with the incubator and one came with the turner. I put both of them in the incubator. Do i need to still buy another thermometer if i already have 2 that came with the LG

You need to set the glass thermometer on top of the eggs... The other one can go anywhere. Remember lower is cooler in a still air.. So an inch will show about 1 or 2 degrees difference.

Ok thanks but are you saying an inch from the heating tube thing. Or are you saying an inch beneath the eggs? I put the thermometers in there and i am trying to get it stable. Is there a certain temperature i need to compromise on once i get the turkey eggs incubating and then put the chicken eggs in? 99.5 is marked on the thermometer but i am unsure if this is the same temp i need for turkeys.

Thank you for all your help so far!

not gonna lie.... i heard LG incubators are pretty bad/hard to use.. most people buy them because they are the cheapest, and being new to the hatching world, don't know that Styrofoam incubators are the hardest kind to use... and I heard the turners on those things are horrible.. but having never used an LG before, i only know this from friends/other BYC members.

have the incubator run for about a day as if the eggs were in it. while you gewt it all prepared for the eggs by running it for a while, put the eggs somewhere around 60 degrees F. with the small end DOWN!!! (the large end has the air sac.. letting the eggs sit like this first instead of on their side lets the air sac settle, increasing hatch rates! (: )

HAPPY HATCHING!

the temp. should be measured RIGHT ABOVE THE EGGS. 9top of eggs if possible.) for still air models of incubators, the temp. should be exactly at 102.5 and for fan-assisted models the temp. should be kept at 99.5 (Fahrenheit)

OK just did a search and turkey eggs are incubated at the same temperatures and humidity as chicken eggs just a week longer. Also reading over the instructions that came with my incubator, it says that eggs can be stored for two weeks before there are big problems with them hatching. Looks like you have a couple days to fiddle with the bator to be sure you have it stable before adding the turkey eggs.

ok i just let the incubator run for yesterdat and today and it seems to be keeping steady temps. On the thermometer i have there is mark on it that says keep the temp at 99.5 are you saying this is wrong and i need to turn it up to 102.5?

And remember that when you put your eggs in the temperature is going to drop pretty drastically because of the added mass of the eggs. DON'T adjust the temperature, just let the incubator catch up and come back up to temp on it's own. If everything is working right, it will come back up to the holding temp in a few hours.
