Hatching for Valentine's Day???

well, i will keep my fingers crossed for you....

I did this with the intentions of letting nature take its course....and hopefully I will get some healthy chicks...it is all a learning experience...i'm sure you know this.

Yep I agree, its a great learning experience. After my first failure, I just about gave up. Glad I didn't. Its fun getting chicks in the mail, but even getting 1 new chick out of a hatching is great, makes them more special. I got lucky and the first chick hatched by a broody and the only one to hatch on my first attempt both turned out to be pullets.

One of my ducks started laying and I put them in the incubator, checked them on day 7 and no veining. Guess the males don't like whichever one is laying or its too early in the season yet.

I woke up to 5 pips this morning

some may have pipped on the under side... should I flip them?

eta: Sunangel, don't stress it so much. I've had blackrosecmbs hatch like that and after 24 hrs they were fine... just keep them in the incubator... if you have a wire floor, get a papertowel and fold it up and place it under the chick so it doesn't stick to the wire and get navel parts stressed. That will all dry up. Day 1 is very tiresome for some chicks and they just need some beauty sleep

no! don't open the bator!! just sit on your hands!!! haha...that is what I have been doing for the last 15 hours....it is hard to watch and wonder what is going on in there, but if you open the bator, the drop in humidity could ruin your entire hatch!!! I have a bunch of pips and two have hatched so far, and they are banging the eggs around in there, but all I can do is watch. the funny thing is, they are moving the eggs around, so I can see pips that I haven't even seen yet, ya know the ones that were hiding!!!! just have patience....that's what I keep telling myself.

I have a homemade bator and I never have to worry about that... when I open, it'll drop ten degrees or so but be right back up in ten minutes... The whole bottom tray is water with sponges and I have a bunch of holes on the sides to I cork up in order to bring up humidity ...if I corked the whole thing up, it'll get to 100% in no time

Do you think it could still suck the humidity from the egg that fast?

i'm not sure...this is my first time hatching, but I was told no matter what, don't open the bator...so I'm sticking to it..your homemade bator sounds great!! I think the littlest drop in humidity once they have pipped could be bad...

Oh how I am hoping for something today!! This is my FIRST time with the incubator. I purchased the Browder Top Hatch from youdontknow32 and so far I really like it. I know I will get someone argue with this statement but I'm glad I didn't go with a styrophone incubator cause I can't wait to get this baby in the dishwasher and fire it back up again!!

I have Black Rosecombs from Msbear who is a dream to work with, and barred rock from Mikeeeeeee, big, big pretty eggs and equally well to work with! And, just to see how well my own eggs do vs. shipped I placed some of my Serama eggs in there. Notta complaint so far......

I'm glad I get to join in with you bunch of incubating fools.....but boy is my hubby getting anxious about me requesting so many pens!

Now, why aren't they peeping!!!!!

Thanks, slickchick, I believe you are right.

When I tap on the bator window, Im not hearing any peeping and there's no rolling eggs

...usually, it's wild in there right now... maybe they be just chillin
