Now my big question is how long to I wait for the others. There were only 4 total in the bator. This chick is the first one. I see no action at all from the other 3! So how long should I wait and not jeopardize the one that hatched??? Oh and do I need to take a vent plug out so she can get enough air to breath or will she be fine with the plugs in??? I can't lose humidity for the rest of the eggs so was just unsure on what you are supposed to do for air flow for the hatched one.

you can leave the hatched chick in there up to 48 hours. keep the humidity and temp the same for the others to hatch out. the new chick will be fine. I had my first one hatch friday night and I just put him in the brooder late last night. I kept an eye on the humidity and tried to keep it as constant as possible. I always had one vent plug out for air flow....the humidity will rise with every hatch, then go down as the chick fluff up.

Love the pics and video! Congrats to everyone with new little chickies!!

msbear last hatch I had 2 die in the shell and have no idea why. it just happens and we dont know why. Mother nature can be harsh.

So I ended up with 5 chickies out of 5 eggs but I have a confession to make. I helped the last one out and I swore I would never do that. But this egg was the first one to pip and after everyone else was hatched this egg hadn't made any progress. Just a hole big enough so I could see it breathing inside. I was gone most of yesterday and when I got home the humidity had gone way down - my sponges had dried out. So I took it and wrapped in damp paper towel and pealed shell and as much membrane as I could There was no blood and the yolk was absorbed. Poor thing was stuck and couldn't turn to zip so I'm glad I helped. Had to give it a bath cuz it had pooped and some membrane was stuck to it. It still has a piece of eggshell stuck to its head I cant get off. Well after it had dried it wasn't gettin around too good. One toe was kinda curled under and accross its foot so I made a little bootie for it and taped its toes in place. And it was also spraddled so taped its legs together. I'm thinking maybe cuz it was in the shell so long? Its still in the bator keeping warm along with another chick that seems a bit weak. But they are both looking really good today so I'm hopeful! The other 3 are the fattest chicks I've ever had! I'll post pics soon. I've got 7 people coming for dinner so gotta go cook now.
