Howdy!

I'm in Oregon, and while I haven't personally been affected by the fires (aside from smoke, but that's nationwide at this point), I have friends and family who have lost their homes, their belongings and their pets/livestock. While many people won't be able to return to any "normal" semblance of life for a while, there are some folks who came back to evacuated homes to find their chickens/ducks/quail either missing or dead due to the fires and hazardous air quality. Replacing those birds would mean a whole lot to folks right now.

I'm hoping to gather some peeps who are willing to hatch eggs (barnyard mixes, pure, Trader Joe's, purchased off ebay...whatever!), and to donate the chicks to those who lost their birds. I've got 24 eggs coming my way that I hope to use for the October hatch-a-long and then gift to folks in need. Surplus birds can be sold and profits donated to organizations directly assisting those impacted by the fires in CA, OR and WA.

Anyone want to join me?

That's a nice gesture, but in a situation like this I would think there personal welfare would be more important. If they had enough food or supplies, etc. Since I had to evacuate for 2 weeks and didn't know what I was coming back too. Just a thought.
