Ok I am not having a good time with hatching geese. My mom started this project. Did not listen to anything and now has asked me to save her chicks. I ended up assisting one who is very strong and doing well. I did not assist another. It died. I have one more that has poked through the membrane but everytime it moves its head the membrane starts bleeding. The membrane has turned brown in areas and is drying out. It is now wrapped in a damp paper towel trying to make it easier for the chick to hatch itself. I honestly do not know what to do.

The first one I helped did bleed a little. Scared the heck out of me. I was being so careful and I had stopped doing anything the little thing decided to make a bid for freedom and got itself out of the egg and then started bleeding alot. Out came the pencil from my husbands shaving kit. I don't want to watch another chick stuck in the shell die but I don't want to kill it either. It seems destined to die. She ignored all the humidity stuff and just did whatever and they seem to be a bit shrink wrapped. Any suggestions. I need goose people. This is nothing like my chick hatching experiences. nothing!!

First gosling is a little speed demon and is busy making a mess with his 2 duck buddies. ( yay)
The last gosling managed to un attatch itself during the night. It seems weak to me but not much weaker than the first one was. It still has to absorb some stuff so I have to keep it separate. Its trying to walk. It does has a little sore on its belly where it freed itself. I am going to put neosporin on that. When I went to bed I pretty much assumed it would not make it through the night. I checked several times till about 3 and it just looked so weak and still. This morning its peeping and trying to walk.

Thats great news. Just watch that unhealed navel for infection and keep it dry and all should be ok. Sounds like they've hatched a little prematurely but you've controlled your assisted hatch - now enjoy them

Well the the 2nd chick made it. Its walking around with the other one and the 2 duck buddies I bought( just in case there was only 1 survivor). I honestly did not think this one would make it. I have threatened smack hands to my mother is she starts assisting her next batch and if she does not use the bloody hydrometer I bought her. My nerves cannot take this much stress. Today was the first day the gosling was in with the others. It took 3 days to fully hatch and a bit over 24 hours before I felt it could be put with the others. It was just too weak. very stressful.

We've done everything we can for it... so we'll just be watching it and praying.
