I want to hatch out some eggs for fun, but I really can't have too many more chickens, on average how many eggs in a dozen hatch and survive?

I'm no pro, but there are lots of variables. Fertility/freshness/handling of eggs. Quality of incubator used. Etc.

On my first hatch, I was using my own eggs, a genesis 1588 incubator with an automatic turner and I got 12 out of 14.

Add to that, it's amazingly addictive!!!

Consider hatching for others. I always place an ad locally and offer my hatching services at no charge. That way I get to hatch and not keep them all. Some folks offer to let me keep a couple if I choose and I have done that before. Right now I even have 3 goose eggs in lockdown for someone.
