Hatching help!

Hello, I have 2 eggs hatching in incubator. One chick hatched just fine, the second one has pipped but blood is coming out of the shell. Is that normal or should I assist? Thank you in advance for your help.

No it's not normal. Most likely it has pipped a vein in the membrane. Often this can cause them to bleed out depending on how prominent the vein was. I would just chip the shell (and only the shell) away from the pip and wet the spot with water on a q tip (ight have to hold the q-tip there for a couple inutes,) and replace to the bator once the bleeding has ceased. Sorry you didn't get a reply quicker.

Good, Thank You. The peep hatched at 11:00 p.m. last night and is a cute yellow peep this morning. Very happy! Incubated 3 eggs and got two peeps, which is what I wanted because I have two grandchildren. Two very cute peeps for Easter. What a Miracle!

Thank You! I see your are from up-State NY. Me Too! From Wayne County, half way between Syracuse and Rochester, near Sodus Bay. Now live in WV. We had to get away from the snow belt and NY taxes. Hope you get some spring soon. And thanks again for your help.

I thought so, I started raising chickens last spring and Love them, I am now known as the crazy chicken and cat Lady. LOL I now just pray they will both be hens. Already have one rooster and the Kids and I are already attached to these babies. Fingers crossed

Don't blame you, I'd love to get out of this state! What is Spring? Woke up to a fresh layer of Easter snow this morning.

I'm up past Watertown. About 45 minutes from the Canadian border. I lived down by Syracuse (Baldwinsville) for 12 years.
