Hatching in automatic turners?

Don't ever leave them in a turner.

The argument about egg cartons is a well trodden path around here.

I don't use them, and generally get extremely high hatch rates (100% last time).

Others use them and swear by them.

It seems to be a matter of personal preference. Egg cartons will not help hatch rates, that is controlled by other factors, but they do help clean up

twigg~ When you have them on their sides, is your incubator full? I'm wondering if the better hatches for me in the carton are because I only hatch a few at a time, so the eggs can roll all over the place. But if it was full, they couldn't roll as much..

I'd never leave them in the turner.

The rolling around happens, but has never been an issue. Some don't like it is all.

I personally love the egg carton method because clean up is a snap compared to leaving them to hatch in the open. Also, I like to monitor the progress of pips, etc., and when they roll all around it's hard to keep track.

I would never hatch in a turner.

I started taking mine out of the turner and hatching them in egg cartons.I'm still concerned about them trying to walk over them once they get their sea legs from under them.

Probably stupid ?,,But I have heard a lot of people talking about laying the eggs on their side.What exactly do you mean.Is that a certain way to lay them after they come out of the turner or stop turning them.Is it a certain way to lay them????

Using an automatic egg turner takes a lot of the drudgery out of hatching. The manufacturers all recommend that on day 18 you place them in a hatcher and quit turning them. If you do not have a hatcher you remove the egg turner from the incubator and quickly place the egg back on the wire in the bottom. Works great when done that way.
