Hatching in homemade incubator question

No FB here.

RE: lock down. The timing of that is not critical, as long as you take into account your air cell size. On day 14, the chicks start positioning for hatch. So, if I've been incubating them in egg cartons, I take them out of cartons and lay them flat on that day. Your air cell size should determine when you increase your humidity, but any time after day 14, you can, in theory stop turning your eggs without issue. I do continue turning for a few days. but mark the cells one last time prior to official lock down, and also mark the probable pip locations if the cells have started to draw down.

Awesome I just had first 1 hatch it pipped yesterday morning then no movement for 26 hours.
I was getting worried because of time frame. Then it unzipped just a little and had so much strength from all that rest it busted 3/4 if egg without zipping it. Word to the wise DO NOT INTERVENE if the chick isn't out of the shell then it's not ready or it has problems and nature will take it's coarse.
If I had helped I would have a chick with problems or worse and it's so hard to keep your hand out of the incubator I stared at that egg for 26 hours thinking the worst.
