Does anyone know if hatching eggs in the cooler fall weather is generally less successful? Do the eggs incubate properly and is it to cold for the babies? I'm planning on giving my broody hen some eggs on Friday and this will be her first hatch. I'm in Nashville and right now it's 50s at night and 60-70 during the day.

If you have a good broody, she can handle those temps just fine, so long as her nest is somewhere out of the wind and any rain that comes.

I've had broody hens hatch and raise chicks in colder temperatures and noted no difference between those and spring/summer hatches. As long as she has a safe, sheltered spot to sit and raise her chicks they'll be fine.
