Hatching Keets with Guinea Hen

Thanks for the good information. I have a question, I found one of my hens with alot of eggs hiding in my corn garden. I candled a few and they are getting ready to hatch. I could hear them zipping and could see the movement. I want to move her and the keets when hatched into a coop. Will she abandon them if moved? I can lock her in the coop with them for awhile. I would just leave them but am afraid something will get to the. Thanks for your help!
i agree with @R2elk…lock them in the coop with mom for a bit. As for her abandoning the keets, I don’t think that will happen once they hatch, as the hen is usually brutally protective of them. For this reason, I’d try herding them in rather than picking any keets up so you don’t assaulted by her. (Been there, done that!)

My Guinea hen just had baby’s she finally brought them out and they were in the woods, I had the mom and dad closed up and then I let them out , she laid her eggs and hatched them, well she brought them in the cage , I closed them up, so do keep them in there tell the baby’s get bigger ? And what about the baby’s not being able to get bugs ? Are should I let them out and let the mom and dad take care of them in woods ?

I would usually let the keets out during the day with the mom, but my hens would always stick close to home and bring the keets back to the coop every evening. The exception to this is rainy days, when I would keep them locked up because they are fairly fragile and don’t do well when they get cold or wet. I would not let them go off and raise the babies in the woods or they will get picked off by some predator. If you don’t think they’ll come back once you let them out, then I’d keep them locked up till they start to feather out and know where “home” is. You’ll need to lock mom in with them or get a heat lamp to keep them warm, though. You can feed them high protein came bird feed and grit until they’re a little older and can get out and eat bugs.

The best thing if you have the facilities is to pen the parents with the keets until they are older. In the meantime, provide them with a quality high protein turkey or game bird starter and fresh water.

They won’t come back in every night, they usually root in tree, they only come back to eat, that’s how I got them in cage, stood and what tell they went in but when I got over there to close gate , about 5 baby’s were on outside, I but them in the mom about got me but I got them in closed gate. I have had a few sets of Guinea’s but only had these two left . I kept them up for a year, that’s what I read, then when I let them out , they would come back but go in tree, to sleep, thank you for answering me 🤓
