Hatching now...

I know it works and holds the temp! I built 3 of them myself

Good luck on your hatch.

I use the same method of "turning". I noticed rooster-red you have 2 different cartons. When I have 2 different one, it's easier to have a piece of 2x4 under opposite sides and then just slip it under the other one. They'll each be tilted the opposite. (does that make any sense. You don't have to take it all the way out and put under the other, and risk dropping it on it.

That would work, but then I'd have to open the bator. I actually have the 2 x 4 outside the cooler, underneath it to tilt the entire thing.

tricky, tricky! If I can figure out my humidity without filling the wells in my LG, I may do this!

Today is day 4, homade bator is humming along nicely, no problems with temp or humidity.

If all the eggs are fertile I should get a bunch of fuzz butts out of this batch.

Will candle on day 7 and post results.

I am on my second try at this hatching. I set 14 banty eggs in. Problem is it is still air bator. The acurite thermometers are only at 98, the bulb thermo is at 102, If I turn it up higher then it gets to high. I don't think I will ever figure this out. It is very frustrating, but I will try it this time, if it doesn't work then I am done.

Aw don't give up!

I think if I fail at this-and I may, been having tons of temp flux the first few days-I will get a bit better bator. I have my eye on a hova 1588 with turner-just plug it in, add h2o and watch it!

Lee, we picked up a 48 qt cooler at the flea market because I need another hatcher for my April hatch. We have a water heater thermostat that we previously tried to use in the fridge a bator and couldn't regulate it, but can you tell me what wattage bulb you are using and where the thermostat is mounted in there? I'm going to have to incubate AND hatch in the Fridge-a-Bator AND the Hovabator at the same time plus I will also have a slight staggered hatch, unexpectedly, so I'll need a third unit to transfer eggs to this time.

The stat is mounted on one corner at egg height, the fan is in the next corner and above the light.

I started out with a 25 watt bulb but had trouble with temp swings. settled with a 40 watt.

Hope this helps!
