Hatching pullet eggs

Yeah, he was obvious by the time he hit 3 weeks. At two weeks the comb was well developed but not yet turning red.

The middle one I think is a pullet. Their tails looked distinctly different before the feathers started growing in.

Did your eggs hatch?
Of 19 eggs, I have only 1 survivor. 3 or 4 were clears, about the same number died before hatch, several more were squashed by the broodies before they finished hatching, and a few more hatched successfully but then suffocated or were squashed. ONE chick lives. She's nearly 4 weeks old now and thriving. Sucks about the others. I can only hope it was due to new broodies, and young ones at that, who didn't know what the h*ll they were doing.

Likely. But you know the eggs can hatch, so that's a plus.

I've had broodies push eggs out of the nest, trample them, etc. All of them were first time broody. So far two great moms and one being tested.

The little mascot turned into a pullet. Here she is with her big brother, still just as protective.
