Hatching Q on mailed eggs - Ayam Cemani

Wow, that is a BEAUTIFUL baby, and I'm sorry it didn't make it. SO DARK!!! That is exactly what I was hoping would hatch out of my eggs. Alas, they do indeed look very much like the Black Copper Maran chicks that I hatched about a month ago. =( ... And SOOOO expensive!!

is illegal, I spoke with this farm when I first started researching eggs. They said they just mark your package collectibles (not eggs) so they can get through customs - tisk tisk. You also don't know what disease you may be bringing to the US or your flock.

I emailed them and yes, they send them as "collectable" to get them through . I have decided on not purchasing outside the US. I guess I will wait to get these birds.

You can wait, or again, buy from an established member here on BYC. That's what I will be doing from now on. There's a couple sellers on Ebay that I REALLY like and will still buy from, and it wouldn't surprise me if they were BYC members. But don't do what I did and buy from a new seller on Ebay with only 20-something feedback at the time thinking your chicks will grow up to look exactly like their pictures.

Reputation goes a long way, and there are so many great breeders here on BYC that know their stuff. I think you might an excellent decision in not buying outside of the US.

And that's what i'm going to do is buy from someone here on the BYC, or a reputable seller on Ebay, someday. I just get so nervous that i will not get what i'm paying for and be out a lot of money. I am so sorry again to hear about your experience with your ebay Cemani eggs. He should have replaced those eggs for you.

I hope you gave him a terrible review and that others will read it and stay clear of him.

Just an update: Lost all open cases (there was a total of three orders) against seller on Ebay. No refund or replacement eggs.

Hundreds of dollars spent on those eggs. My boyfriend and I are both in our late twenties, both attending college full-time and working full-time. This is something we planned and had been looking forward to for months. He invested more money into those eggs than I did, but I am still pretty disappointed. Neither one of us needed a "perfect" bird. Honestly, I still would have been okay with some light toes, or maybe a small splash here and there... but now we pretty much have Black Copper Maran-looking chicks...just not what we were expecting. We were attracted to the breed for having the black skin, black feathers, etc. Like a Gothic chicken, I would joking say. I just thought they were cool.

Be careful who you buy eggs from. Established breeders or trusted BYC members ONLY...

A huge thank you to Maranfarmer563 for selling me the most perfect Ayam Cemani egg. All the way from PA to WA State, no detached air cells that I could see...excellent packaging. Comparing them to past pictures, the differences are obvious. I don't see how a purebred Greenfire Ayam Cemani can lay a big old brown egg... The ones I recently received are small, uniform shape, pale ivory in color. Beautiful.

The hatch is on me, so wish me luck...

Such a crummy outcome but so happy you have some quality eggs to give it a real go. Keep is posted on your journey!

The whole situation is rotten Marie, I feel for you. Ebay is a wonderful place that sometimes seems to be half full of crooks!
I've got my fingers crossed that these new eggs come through and hatch perfectly - what is the due date on them? (I will put it on my egg calendar). There's no way I can get any here in Australia so I will have to enjoy your beautiful blackies from afar!

Today is technically Day 1, since I set them yesterday after "resting" overnight. Hatch Date would then be 1/30!

I have five different monitors in the incubator right now... looks kind of silly. Just being extra careful. =)

Also disabled the turner... I'll enable it in two more days.
