Hatching Q on mailed eggs - Ayam Cemani

the person you are talking about with the "cemani" is a hmong chicken...and that is what he has..i have had conversations on here with him admitting it to me cause I called him out on here...he said they were hmong chickens...and said he would post pics later of the real one and never did...the hmong chicken is all black as well....insides and out....so be careful when buying this breed as there are people trying to cash in on this chicken....

as for a reason y your chickens didn't hatch and some of them had messed up insides...just my guess...but you use a permanent marker...which is toxic...to a bird....the egg itself soaks up the material in the ink and the embryo absorbs what is soaked into it...ever where I have read says to use a pencil...you can ask around...and everyone will tell you they use a number two pencil...a great breeder with the cemanis....(randy) uses a number two pencil...

hope this helps...im hatching as we speak...just reg chickens tho...6 already hatched...more coming...cant wait...
have a wonderful day...

and the guy from ebay with that name and the guy on here are the same person...fyi

Any news on your hatch blackgoat? I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you! I hope to see some cutie babies soon!

I can't stand the wait on my new Cemani eggs. I am proud to say that I have only opened the incubator ONCE, to enable the turner! I haven't touched any eggs! I can't wait to candle in two days... The anticipation is KILLING ME!
Well, still nothing today. So I just candled one, and I'm 99% positive I saw movement. So I popped it back in. There is a puzzling thing though. I think the thermometer I've been using has been reading high. I tested it against two other thermometers and it reads 3 degrees higher than those two. So, when I thought it was 100, it was really 97. The puzzling thing is this is the one I used for the NYD Hatch, and had a fairly successful hatch, all things considered. And a really good hatch rate on the Marans eggs. Do Marans hatch better at a lower temp? At any rate, I think I'll have to get one of those brinsea touch thermometers. Still keeping my fingers crossed.

Good luck on your Cemani eggs. And good job being patient! If I wasn't hand turning, I still think I'd be candling like every other day, lol! I have no patience!

Hmm, okay. yeah, I think plenty of people are using the name recognition of the Cemani to cash in. (Athough, I would think a Hmong chicken would also be in demand, but I guess it's not worth as much as a Cemani.) This is why I'm thinking of getting the Swedish Black Hen instead. Even though Swedish Black hens are more rare than Cemanis, Cemanis still cost more, go figure.

200 from greenfire...huh...I just got an email from them two days ago saying 500 for day old chicks...weird...and as for the hmong chicken you can get them for 5 bucks...if you know some hmong people...and so enough my girl is hmong...so not to hard to find....

Yes, day old Cemani's are $199 a chick and Svart Hona $99@gFF. I was thinking about getting 5 Cemani's but I may just go Svart Hona instead. They are both beautiful...can't decide!

Does Greenfire sell hatching eggs, or just chicks?

Heh, you can get twice as many! $99 isn't that bad. Hmm, I may have to start saving up!

Okay, out of four, two hatched so far, and one is pipped. Out of the two, one most definitely does not have black skin, the other might be more black, still waiting for it to dry. They both have white areas on the belly and wings, and white toes.

Sounds a lot like mine... there were a couple that didn't have black skin. I'm glad you're getting babies, though! That is exciting! I bet they're adorable.

700

All 3 are together and doing good (enjoying running through the food dish!) & the little one is getting stronger. He's a noisy little one too. Unfortunately the belly of the last one is all white :( hoping it will go away when the feathers come in but maybe not his mouth is also grey not black, but he/ she is alive so it's a win!

They look good! Can I ask what kind of cage that is?
