Hatching Q on mailed eggs - Ayam Cemani

Your babies are absolutely stunning! I hope mine look like that at six weeks. 

4/6 eggs have made it thus far. One never developed, and one was an early death. They go into lockdown on Tuesday!

Hatch date is the 26th! I am SO excited!

Marie,did the light colored eggs all make it to lock down? My cemani have finally started laying,put some in my Bator and mailed some to Florida

2 out of 3 of the light colored eggs will be going into lockdown! =) And then 2/3 of the larger/darker eggs as well.

How long do hens usually take a break, anyway? Just through the darker/colder months? How long is their average molt?

MaranFarmer, I might have to start pestering you for eggs if a bunch of crosses hatch out of these eggs!

Seriously, though. Keep me in mind when your modern bantams decide to start laying again.

This thread will be the first to know how my hatch goes!

Seems like they stop about a month,they grow in new feathers then start laying if they are on long day by lighting. I have eggs in incubator checking fertility now.

I need to give my hatcher a good scrub as soon as I get off of work today, and then I'm going to set the Cemani eggs!

All I want for Christmas is.......all four of these Cemani eggs to hatch!

I just finished my hatch last night. (It was my second time attempting a hatch.) I had 16 eggs go into lockdown and 13 of them hatched healthy babies. My average time between pip and zip is anywhere between 16-20 hours!! If by 20 hours there is absolutely no progress then and only then will I SLIGHTLY open the pip area to see if there is a critical reason why there has been no progress. Even with my malpositioned pipper I waited almost 20 hours before interfering. If there is a critical reason for the stalling (shrink wrapped,sever malposition) then I will commence to 'help'. A few hours between pip and zip is nothing. Frustrating, yes, but most pippers in my experience and in my reading, take forever between the two stages. I had to assist two chicks, one for it's sever malposition and one for being shrink wrapped. It was a hard decision to decide whether to assist or not. Good luck with yours!

What a great thread! I am considering buying Cemani eggs from a breeder in Indonesia. I have been obsessed with these birds from the first time I saw them a few years ago. If I do buy them it will be for 12 eggs. I look at it this way, If I get even 3 or 4 out of the 12, it will be a win!
