Hatching quail with a chicken

These pictures are from about a week ago.

Here the hen is scratching up some kind of goodies.

Here they're foraging in some grass growing in the pen.

Here you can get a good idea of how big they are by comparing them to the corn kernals.

Down to 1 remaining quail chick. They sleep along the back wall of the pen which is the wall of my barn and the rain coming off the roof got them wet and I guess it got chilled and died. I was worried that might happen, but not enough to go out in the rain and check on them.

Don't be so hard on yourself, its not like theres a "collect eggs" button on the remote now is it?

better late than never...^5

I'm sure having a group conversation with me around is hard.

My mind searches the humor in ANY situation, often inappropriately, I can't even help myself.

I best not go to the funeral home...

Well hey, I enjoy your wit. Even if it was low-hanging fruit

Back to the main thread of this...I am moderately interested in attempting to hatch out quail with my Serama/Silkie hen because I desperately want to have broody quail one day. I do not want them to get sick though or carry sicknesses so I will probably never attempt it. Essentially, I just said nothing.

look segeregate mom, run a course of medicated feed, wait a week and let her sit, her whole job will be complete when they are a week or so old.

whatcha got to lose?

Would you do that? What would you medicate for prior to sitting? I think if I did this I'd run a light dose of Corid, de-wormer, and maybe some Tylan 50 in case she's carrying Coryza.

I'd have to test the chicks of course, for carrying diseases too.

All this for a few broody coturnix and bobwhites
