Hatching quail

That's a good setup. My brooder is 4ft by 20". I keep my hot end around 100F even a little hotter sometimes. The cool end is usually around 80F. This allows them to position themselves where they are the most comfortable. I always say too warm is better than too cold as long as they have a cool zone to escape the heat.

You don't even need a thermometer but it gives you a good starting point. The chicks will tell you what they need. If they are directly under the light and climbing on top of each other they are too cold. If they stay far away from the light they are too hot. I like them to travel around the entire brooder then sleep on the edge of the the heat lamp light....

Yours look comfortable in that pic...

I have a really small incubator, a magicfly 12, so that makes sense.
Yeah you can be real quick with that one.

With mine I have to open the door and pull the entire tray out. The tray is full of chicks but also has eggs that are pipped and some zipping. They get removed entirely from the incubator while I toss the chicks in the brooder, which is what dries them out.

I normally can remove the tray, move chicks, and replace the tray in less than 60 seconds but I always have a few shrink wraps after I do that.

I have 60 eggs going on lockdown tomorrow and this will be the first time trying it with the shower going. I'm curious to see how well it works....

That sounds incredibly hard! Let us know how your little experiment goes!
