Hatching Question.. Please answer

A chick pipped Friday and the site oozed. I didn't touch it. Since then 3 have hatched successfully. I opened the egg of the one that oozed did not pip internally, just pipped in the middle of the egg where it oozed. What could have caused its death. Please help me figure out what might have happened. Thanks.

Hi Laura, I am also from pa. it must have been malpositioned and pipped out the shell and not into the air cell, sometimes if there is a lot of fluid surrounding the chick yet it can drown them.

Thank you so much Sally Sunshine. Ive read your articles numerous times trying to figure out what happened. When I opened up its beak wasn't coming through the air sac. It was in the middle of the side wherebit oozed. Is there anything I could have done?

no unfortunately, did you have a few wet chicks? your humidity may have been high, but again it sounds like it was malposition and fluid got in him.
