I just hatched out my first batch of chicks yesterday and last night. How long is it safe to leave them in the incubator? The first one hatched yesterday at about noon and the last one hatched early this morning. My husband wants to leave them in their until he gets home from work tommorrow morning around 9:00 am. So that will be about 30- 45 hours for them to be in there. Is that too long? Thanks, Pam

That sounds like an awfully long time. Hopefully some of the experienced hatchers will have some help for you.

That seems like a long time to me. I know they can go 48-72 hours without food and water but an incubator doesn't give them a chance to get the right temperature. In a brooder they are supposed to have the option to move closer to or away from the heat light. That would be my concern, as well as lack of oxygen. I don't really know though

I think they will be fine. If your husband wants to leave them in there, they will be fine.

Thanks everybody for your input. I feel better now.
