Any ideas as to what kind of chicks these are? Ive been told that my hens are just mixes but Id like to know what their babies look like breed-wise. Thanks!

There are still four. They are all healthy and doing fine and momma hen is content to laying on her nest.

She officially stopped being broody today! It turns out that there are seven remaining eggs and sadly, I do not when they were laid. I put them under a desk lamp because that is all that I have, but I doubt they will hatch. I have no idea about how much heat there should or how far the lamp should be from the eggs, so for all I know I could be roasting them to death or freezing them. The eggs feel warmish so I guess thats a good sig, but I don't expect them to hatch. Thanks guys! (and if you know anything about lamps for chicks please let me know)

hi,
my eggs in the incubator feel a litle warmer than warmish. could you get a thermometer? to hatch you need temp and humidity so have a damp cloth each day. it might be a long shot but people have hatched that way i believe.

I am going to buy a heat lamp for the eggs... Does anyone know how far away the lamp should be from the eggs? Thanks!

The surface of the eggs should be no higher that 100 degrees. Buy a cheep (get it? ha!) mercury-type thermometer and set on top of the damp clothe on top of the eggs. As they tell you, its a long shot, but what the heck? Right? Good luck! and again, congratulations.

The fourth chick died :(
I dont know why... He might have been stepped on :( but they are doing fine. I let them free roam for the first time today and they are adorable!
