Hatching Silkie Chickens and Quail together - Bad idea?

Quote:
I agree.

I disagree. I would start the silkies first, then put the quail in 5-6 days later so that they all hatch at the same time. Since you only have one bator, you wont be able to separate the eggs in a hatcher. That means that if you set them at the same time, you will have to raise the humidity for the quail to hatch and risk the silkies. If you were hatching large fowl and button quail, I might be worried that the chickens would hurt the quail, but I wouldn't be too worried with silkies and most species of quail.

Thanks for all of the advice! I think what I will do is put the silkie eggs in a few days early (I will be getting them 1st anyway) and then put the quail eggs in a few days later. At lockdown, when I take out my turner, I will probably put the quail eggs in a tupperwear bowl or something, just so they are at least somewhat seperated. Neither of us wants to take turns with the incubator - the joys of having 1 incubator!!!

I use a papertowel---but I have also used desk organizers that are all mesh or even cut out the bottom of the basket. The organizers are the 4/$1 ones---so no big loss
