Hatching store bought eggs~ Whole Foods vs. Trader Joes

Same here ! How's it going? I'm planning on starting mine at 12:00AM, but I haven't gotten home yet to work out some temperature kinks... So I don't know, maybe I'll have to wait another day to set them :/

I don't know what the breeds are. We have one from TJ's. It was a white egg and a pale yellow chick.
From 4-H we have 2 black chicks that came from dark brown eggs & 2 that look like chipmunks and came from green eggs.
There are 14 that range from a pale yellow to a golden reddish color - 8 of the 14 are Whole Foods and 6 are 4-H. I'd say there are fewer that gave the reddish hue; so maybe the paler ones are from Whole Foods. Hope the photos help. The eggs I got from the 4-H were aprox $7/doz. You can get a variety from them: green, brown, tan, white.
Maybe somebody that knows chickens a lot better than I do can tell you what they are. All I know is they are darn cute.

The chicks that are white/yellow with black spots (in pic 2) should be California Whites. I think i have 9 of them. ~Naomi

One of my Whole Foods eggs started developing in the last batch. I candled it and then it died..I figured it was because I haven't washed my hands and the oils have been clogging the pores bringing in oxygen... So I got 2 more cartons and put 15 in the bator. I won't candle till day 8, to be on the safe side... I'll keep y'all updated, for those who care.

I'll be looking forward to seeing how it goes! Gee, this sounds like a great way to do a practice run with my home made incubator! Only thing is I wouldn't know what to do with leghorns asI'm planning on tiny bantams! I see some threads where people are constantly hatching, and wonder what they do with all the chicks?

Still, I could just raise them for meat, I guess...

Awww, I'm sorry

I just set some my hubby bought today for me to see if I can do it in my home made incubator, kinda for practice. Mine are 8 days old (packed 8 days ago) so I hope it'll work. 4 eggs were no good and I'll be breaking 'em to see if they have bulls-eyes in the next couple of days. That should give me an idea of how fertile these eggs started off at ??
