I have 7 eggs in the bator, this is day 20, until about 6 pm EST. One egg pipped about 4 AM this morning, SHE is almost out of the shell, but seems to be hung up with some membranes, or blood vessels or something.

There seems to be two places, on on the top, maybe the wing??? then the one in the back. This is the best picture that I could get, SHE is back in the corner, hard to get a clear picture through the glass of the bator. There also seems to be a little piece of something in the shell. It is not very big and I can't tell what it is. Is that the yolk, maybe?

None of the other eggs have any noticible pips or activity. I candled them at 18 days, but not sure what I was looking for, but thought there were at least 3 eggs that looked good. (maybe more) I am not sure what I am looking for/at.

Any words of encourement, or anything I should do?

Thanks for your help.

That happens. She's still sort of attached to the umbilicus and the membrane and most likely will break free after while. Seems very normal. I'd just wait and let her rest. That stuff will dry and she'll get loose from it. Then she'll run all over playing "Chickie Bowling" with her siblings' eggs.

Thank you, I am just beside myself, wanting to help if I am suppose to, but not wanting to interfere. Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Thanks bunches!

The chick will probably be fine. If it just can't seem to get free from the membrane after it has dried you can always use a little warm water and loosen it enough to get it off.

Thank you, I feel much better. This is my first hatch, so guess I am a little nervous about doing everything I am suppose to do. Thank you both for answering my cry for help!

These were eggs from my hens, nothing special, just buffs of some mixture/sort. This forum has been very helpful, helping me to learn and also the enabling! I have some Australorp eggs coming the middle of January. Now if I can only infect DH. He is not quite the hatchaholic that I am!

Thanks so much everyone for helping me to get a handle on my emotions!)

Happy New Year one and all!

Okay, she seems to be free from the shell now. Wandering all over the bator. How long should I leave her in the bator, before putting her in the brooder. She has basically been out of the shell for a couple hours, but not drying off too fast, but then I don't know how long it takes them to dry off.

I really thought I was prepared, but now I am second guessing myself!

Another question about the brooder, the part under the light should be what temp?

Thanks for your help.

I'd leave her in for quite awhile till she really looks fluffy. Some leave all the chicks in till all hatch, but I don't leave one in longer than 24 hours usually. Under the brooder light, the temp should be about 95 and put the light so they can get away if they feel too hot. You're doing fine!
