My batches used to be great. Then the last two turned out terrible.
29/30 of my last batch made it to day 18. Then my mother opened the incubator while I was gone a few times. Gr. Well only one ended up hatching.
Two pipped then died, one zipped all around then died.
I kept the humdity at 45% first 18 days. Then higher to 55%-60% last 3 but it went up to 68%.
Anyway. I have a still air, and I used the egg carton method. I tilted the entire incubator from the outside by a block under one side to keep from opening the incubator.
On the high side though the temp would be around 104 degrees, and on the low side about 98 degrees but I figured if I changed tilt 3 times a day it would even out. It seemed to work 29 made it to day 18.
Could opening the bator a few short times on the last 3 days really killed all my chicks? Even though the humdity and temp didn't drop.
I think that was the problem, since they started hatching then died.
Also one that pipped and died had a bunch of yolk leaking out of it's pip hole.
I want advice. I want to bu shipped eggs, but I'm not going to spend money until I get a good hatch. I've tried different things. I really liked the tilting with he carton. I don't believe that was the problem. But was my humdity wrong?
I want to try again. But I want some good tips before I do in a couple of days. Any information would be great.
