Hatching Turkey Eggs?

Okay... um, I know nothing about how to hatch turkey eggs.... is it the same way you would chicken eggs? What is the temperature/humidity? How long do they take? Can they be in the same incubator as chicken eggs? Can they live in the same brooder?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm just trying to find out all I can since I'm about to get some... yeah, don't ask

BUT you dont want to put turkey eggs with chicken egg. Because they have a diffrent bactiria. It will kill them.

I know that as adults they aren't supposed to be raised together b/c of "Blackhead", but I didn't know about anything wrong when they were eggs

Is it possible to use the GQF chicken egg turner for turkey eggs or are the turkey eggs too big?

Turkey eggs are too big. The make turkey egg holders for the turner.

That is the first I've heard that one. I hatch and start turkeys and chickens together every year with absolutely no problems. Chicks help turkey poults get around and find the food and water in the first few days that are so critical. As long as they are not exposed to grown chickens (that have been on soil) there is no fear of getting blackhead.

I have found my turkey eggs fit fine in the hova turners when you place them every other slot. For the GQF racks used in a sportsman style bator, they have special ones that are a bit bigger just for turkey eggs. Turkey eggs use the same temp and humidity as chicken eggs, however they do take 28 days to hatch. You stop turning them on day 25. I usually set my chicken eggs exactly a week later so they hatch together.

When deciding on feed for a combined hatch like this, go with the turkeys needs or a flockraiser crumble works well for both species.

I agree with hinkjc. In over 20 years of doing this I have never had a problem arise. I have heard the stories about potential issues. My chickens and turkeys happen to range in the same fields also. Which some promote as something that should never be done.

another example is peafowl. I hached
peafowl with chickens and the same thing happend they hatched and the chicken eggs killed them. So I got another batch of peafowl eggs. cleaned the incubator good. And they hatched out just fine. No problemo!
