Hatching with 2 broodies

Aaaw Liz .. just beautiful! What a perfect little family. I wonder just how many people actually manage to do what you and your girls have done?
It took me a while to find her in the top picture but I did (I won't give it away in case other Team Broody's are looking). Got her in the bottom one also (sooo cute!).

At bed time I tell Cilla that she is my "little 6 headed ch.

Hi All! I have been following your posts for a while and wanted to say congrats on all the new sweet babies!! I have a Old English bantam sitting on 6 bantam eggs and 1 large fowl egg. I think they were due yesterday but at inspection last night saw no pipping nor did I hear any peeping. I see sweet little feet moving so I know that at least the two I candled last night were alive. Has anyone ever experienced extended incubation times? It is getting pretty cold here in Maine, could that maybe be a factor in my babies taking a little longer to bake in there? Thanks for your input and again congrats on your babies! Also, should I NOT be picking them up at this point? I'm sooo impatient, this is my first hatching experience and it's with a broody so I am going a little nuts with the lack of control I have in this situation! Hahaha :)

I tried to attach some pics but it said I didn't have permission to create attachments.. hmmmm?

I have very limited experience, but from what I've read, I understand that you really should avoid picking them up and messing with them at this point. They need to get themselves into a good position to hatch. It's super hard to do, but try to keep leaving it up to your broody, unless she abandons them. I only interfered when the broodies started knocking the remaining eggs around, and I suspect I didn't help the situation at all. I've read it can take up to 25 days for some eggs to hatch, so hang in there! The cold can definitely slow things down.
Good luck!

Thank you so much for your response! I will slap my wrist if I think about touching again :) Just so excited to see some fuzzy butts! My 3 daughters are beyond excited as well. I am so proud of my little Mama, she literally just started laying at about 7 months old and I didn't even know it until she went missing and I found her sitting on 17 EGGS! Quite the clutch she had gathered. We are now down to 7 (a much more manageable number for a itty bitty bantam like herself) but she has not left that nest for more then 10 min at a time for 3 weeks now. Mother nature is so crazy, it is amazing that they know exactly what to do even at that young age. Anyways, thanks for the feedback, I will try my hardest to be patient!

Oh my goodness! 17 eggs!! How did she fit on them?
How on earth did you choose which to keep and which to cook? Too bad you're in Maine - I could use some eggs.

I know! I wish I could show you the pics! When she sat you couldn't see one of them bad boys, so you can imagine my surprise when I shooed her off the nest to take a peek! I didn;t choose right away cause it was a bit warmer. I decided to let Mother Nature do the picking for me. I let 10 days go by and candled... got rid of any underdeveloped or infertile eggs. I cracked them open after and haven't been wrong yet. The 7 left seem to be perfect every time I look at them and I know there should be a "lock down" phase after day 18 but I couldn't help my curiosity last night. I tried not to turn them too much and just took a peek at 2 of them but I will leave them alone now for sure! I have plenty of eggs! Just pickled 2 dozen batam eggs, they are the PERFECT size to just pop in your mouth for a snack... as long as my husband didn't make them too spicy with the jalepenos...

The little blondie is a Silver Penciled Wy. The Little Black one Pecking mom's eyeball is Delaware Roo over CA Grey. I think it is a sex link and I think it is a boy...do the head spots ever indicate anything else?? Anyway they are darling and there are 5 more eggs under her. At least one has a pip...not going to lie I sent my hand on a fishing expedition to find shell fragments and couldn't resist looking at the eggs I pulled out. Hoping for more babies in the morning. All are tucked in for the night. Gave mom some scrambled eggs and a drink all is well in the coop.

Wow .. I ducked in at lunch for an update and boy, have I missed a heap, no time to read and reply now but I will most certainly catch up tonight or early tomorrow (my time zone).

Quick update: Cilla & Co are all good. Britney still not so good so I have bought in the big guns and started her on antibiotics last night .. I saw her take a drink of the dosed water last night and twice again this morning (fresh stuff) .... fingers crossed when I get home that she has perked up a little .. I am fast running out of options and still have no ideas
