Hatching with 2 broodies

Thanks Teila, I'll check next time im there. What form is it, a bottle? a jar? Syringes? , how do you give it to them? What is the one you buy called? Thanks heaps :)

Here are Mum and Dad of the remaining viable egglings (it's not an egg or a chicken yet haha), we have Mavis and Rocky, Orpingtons from the breeder which have remained in their quarantine due to fighting between the Roo's (which Goliath cannot risk with only one eye left, if he loses the other it will be the 20 hour slow cooker for sure .....)

Wonder what the chicks will look like.

They are beautiful!

I use Tetracycline, it comes in a small plastic flip top bottle and you add it to their water for 4-5 days.

Tee hee Liz .. do you think she would be strutting around quite so proudly if she knew what her bottom looked like? lol
Aaaw, poor Bettina, I shouldn't tease her! Cilla is probably going to be next!

Yes please, I so want to see pictures of your little ones being all grown up on the roost!

So at day 20 almost exactly, wow the light has changed...

Go Dot Go, Darkhorse it, 2 chances, fingers crossed

Oh and Lola is doing well, bandage off foot now, happy days

The chook food shop didnt have any antibiotics, only stuff for horses.. I'll try a different one next weekend

Good morning Team!

If you can't find anywhere locally to buy some Tetracycline Pooman, I can pick you some up next time I am at the feed store (probably not for a couple of weeks) and post it to you.

Good news for Lola ... Cheering for Darkhorse .. you can do it!!
Excited for you and so hoping you have some bubbies soon.

Dusty, Cilla & Co still doing well.
Dusty is a strange little girl. When I got her she was in the cage by herself because her siblings had been bullying her, pulling out her feathers etc. The lady in the produce store was concerned that she may not integrate with Cilla and Britney (RIP, my little wrecking ball) but it worked out and while Dusty can be a bit of a loner, they got along fine. Now though, if anyone is frightened, upset, squawking or there is a commotion for whatever reason she comes in for the attack.

I don't even remember exactly what happened yesterday but there was a commotion and Cilla and bubbies were spread everywhere with some panicked squawking and mad dashes to get back to mumma and Dusty, true to form, raced over and joined in. She managed to get a beak full of fluff out of Tina (hopefully a girl and definitely a keeper if she is) before being told off by me.

Everyone is OK and no real damage done .. it's weird that she is OK the majority of the time but if there are any dramas she gets in there and makes it worse! I have to be mindful of where she is if I am doing anything that causes a 'commotion'. Has anyone else experienced that? Is it normal behaviour?

LIVE UPDATE

Dot got off the nest, so we raided... Lol

We can hear cheeping from both eggs, superb news :D

Hi everyone,
Pooman,
We are all rooting for you. How exciting to be on the eve of a hatch. We could say good hatch eve. Is that too corny? Maybe....

Teila,
That behavior sounds like that of an animal that is scared. Dusty may be doing that out of fear. From what I have noticed from having a dog that had been abused in the past, 'they act out" to try and have some sort of control over a perceived out of control situation. I may be over analyzing it but this is what I have observed with my dog AnnaBelle. Maybe being picked on in the past had something to do with it. I have not seen that in my chickens so I am really not sure. Maybe try talking to Dusty in a calm voice would help.
I know this sounds weird but I sing to my chickens.

They seem to calm down and they really listen. Maybe they are cringing because I really cant even hold a note but they seem to like it anyway.

ps
I have a Yorkie named Dusty

Have a great weekend all...
