I got a new turkey by accident. (never had them and never thought I wanted them) Gracie is so sweet and precious that I wanted more and she started laying eggs and I knew she should still be fertile. I was so excited that I bought a brand new forced air incubator, thinking I was doing the right thing. I put them in and at day 24 I stopped the turner and candled. 4 were living and 1 unfertile. I turned down the heat and increased the humidity just like I read on many turkey sites. one hatched in spite of drying out to the point I had to help it out. the other 3 were dead. I immediately cleaned and returned the bator and got a new still air. My one living is doing great and I am thankful for that. I am very disappointed in the death of the others right at hatch time and the drying up of the living one. Where did I go wrong?

May I ask what breed Gracie is? I recommend maybe adding a little more humidity/ maybe not reducing heat as much. Otherwise it could have been a defected incubator. Hope everything works out for you

I don't know what breed she is. She is easy to handle. extremely tame. she has a blue head and neck with white and taupe colored feathers. the baby is darker but she is only 4 days old.

This was the only time I saw her fluff out and spread her tail feathers and I had no idea a turkey hen would do this!

Why do turkeys put their wings downward and tiptoe fast beside you? even my little 4 day old will do this. she doesnt do it with me or my dog but she did it to my son when he came to see her for the first time. she is so cute.

I believe Gracie is a royal palm turkey. I don't know why she puts her wings down and tiptoes behind you- maybe she is so used to human interactions she sees humans as companions?

Gracie does not have the full coloring of a Royal Palm, she is closer to a Narragansett, but too light, she may be a cross. That strut is a tom strut. She's probably just showing off.

@WalnutHill thank you for the more knowledgable answer than I provided

The only reason I know some information about turkeys and breeds is because I may get some in the future. Well mothernature, you might not have a Gracie on your hands, but a Gus

Well then- if she is laying eggs that settles the gender debate!

I don't know why she would be strutting like a tom- that sure does baffle me. I didn't see about the eggs in the original post. I agree- she did study well!
